Pretty vintage Scandinavian Sølje earrings, with filigree drops and mirrored dangles. Made of sterling silver, the lightweight earrings hang from sterling silver French earwires. Circa 1950.

Norway’s traditional silver jewelry is called Sølje, a word that means "sunny" and "shiny." This jewelry, usually brooches and pendants, is made of silver filigree worked into the shapes of hearts and flowers and covered with dangling silver discs. The discs act as mirrors, reflecting evil away from the wearer. Sølje jewelry is often worn by new brides, for good luck and to deflect bad luck and ill intentions.
