The Sailor's Cross, an anchor transformed into a cross with the addition of a horizontal crossbar, has its origins in early Christianity. It signifies hope or a fresh start. This Victorian Sailor's Cross brooch is a lovely example of the type. The sterling silver body of the anchor is three-dimensional; it's wrapped in silver "rope," with pretty fluked arms. Iridescent mother of pearl and pale gray banded agate are inlaid in the delicately engraved silver. The brooch is crowned by a large ring that may act as a bale, and it fastens with a c-clasp. A fabulous antique jewel that marries fine craftsmanship with deep symbolism. Circa 1850.

Details.....The anchor measures 2.37" by 1.48. In Very Good Antique Condition. You should always expect some wear on vintage and antique jewels; we consider it part of their charm.
