A brilliant red garnet doublet is set in a beautifully engraved 10k rosy gold ring. The sparkling oval garnet doublet sits in a low profile, six prong head. The pinched, scalloped shoulders are delicately engraved with classic Victorian designs and taper into a slim band. The interior of the ring is stamped with a jaunty anchor and the letter "K" in a small cartouche. Circa 1880.
A doublet is a composite gemstone consisting of two pieces of the same or different gem materials, or one of gem material and a second of glass. The pieces are layered to improve the appearance of the gem. For example, in this case a thin slice of garnet is layered over a piece of red glass, improving the color of the garnet.
