I think something must have spooked this filly. This Bakelite horse head brooch stares at you from goofy googly eyes. She's a handsome sorrel, well sculpted, but her ears are pricked and her eyes are wide, ringed in dark circles. One eye is slightly yellowed with age, giving her an uncanny appearance. A secure rollover pin fastens the unusual brooch. Circa 1930.

Bakelite was the first plastic made from synthetic components. Developed by chemist Leo Baekeland in Yonkers, New York, 1909. Bakelite jewelry became fashionable in the 1920s due to its sleek, modern look and substantial, high-end feel. The wide variety of colors and visual textures made available by Bakelite kept it popular through the 1950s.

Details.....The brooch measures 3.4" tall and 1.83" wide. In Very Good Vintage Condition. You should always expect some wear on your antique and vintage jewels; we consider it part of their charm.
