Spratling's Sterling Silver "Peppercorn" Necklace
William Spratling's fabulous "Peppercorn" necklace. The construction of this sterling silver chain is genius. A dense helix of oval links is held in place by a series of barbells, creating a wonderful tactile effect. The chain fastens with a sturdy box clasp; the clasp is thoroughly signed "925 ws," "William Spratling Taxco Mexico," and with Spratling's silver mark "TS-24." A must-have addition to your collection of Mexican Modernist designs. Circa 1970.
William Spratling (1900 – 1967) was an American-born artist and silver designer best known for his influence on 20th-century Mexican silver design. In 1931, Spratling reestablished the silver industry in Taxco, Mexico, making Taxco an important center for Mexican silver jewelry design. Spratling based his Taller de las Delicias's designs on traditional and pre-Columbian motifs.
Details.....The chain measures 17" long and 12.3mm wide. In Very Good Vintage Condition. All vintage items will show some wear; it is considered a part of their charm.
