Superb Retro Tropical Flower Brooch Signed Pennino

This Pennino Bros. brooch has a superb Retro design; a corsage of stylized tropical flowers is rendered in sterling silver and rhinestones. The flowers are gilded in rose gold and set with clusters of brilliant blue rhinestones. A band of yellow gilt and white rhinestone pavé wraps around the flowers, and a row of white stones runs down the flower stems. It's bold, graphic, and beautifully made. Signed "Pennino Sterling." Circa 1940.

The Pennino family were fine jewelers in Italy before immigrating to the United States in the early 1900s. Otto, Frank, and Jack Pennino founded Pennino Brothers in 1926. The company's high-quality costume jewelry could be found in many elite retail stores, including Saks Fifth Avenue.
