Sweet Fob with a Lovely Cameo
A striking carnelian-colored glass Cameo of a young woman with ivy leaves among her wild curls. It was once believed that the Greek god Dionysus used Ivy to ensnare his followers. Perhaps this cameo depicts one of the Maenads dancing the night away. Though this fob may have a sweeter story as ivy was also thought to bring about an enduring romance. The Cameo is set in a wide Gold-Filled frame enhanced by a tenderly engraved border. This lovely little fob can be dressed up or down, worn on a ribbon or chain, alone or layered. Circa 1900.
Details.....The fob measures 1.23" by 1.04". In Good Antique Condition. Imperfections are to be expected in antique jewelry; it is considered part of its charm.
