This interesting Modernist necklace has that intense, rough-hewn Brutalist feel. A tabular shaped plaque of sterling silver is covered in a pattern that recalls cuneiform, or stylized bamboo. The back of the pendant has an organic, unpolished texture. Very tactile. The sterling silver chain is finished with a hook and eye clasp. This vintage studio piece is signed "Knutson" and "Sterling." Circa 1970.
The Modernist movement of the mid 20th century embodies big, bold aesthetic ideals. Studio jewelers pushed the boundaries of "normal," creating fantastic and surreal beauty. Brutalism design distinguishes itself from Modernism with its deliberate plainness and crudity.
Details.....The sterling silver chain is 19" long. The pendant measures 1.28" by 0.86". In Very Good Vintage condition. You should always expect some wear on vintage and antique jewels, we consider it part of the charm.
