The Wavy Niello Pencil Necklace from Amsterdam

I have had many chatelaine pendant pencils in the last few decades, but this is the only one I have had that can be completely removed from its case and telescoped to a full-size pencil. The pencil sheath is alternating wavy lines of niello enamel and silver, with some niello losses. This intriguing piece has had a life, it dates from circa 1880-90 and has been used and loved. It is marked for 800 silver and was found on a trip to Amsterdam some years ago. The pencil is suspended from a chunky rectangular box link chain made from recycled silver.

Details.....The pencil is 800 Silver European and measures 2.96" long sheathed.The chain is recycled sterling silver and 23" long and 3.9mm thick.
