This outstanding Kachina necklace by Ray Tracey is a true work of art. Its beauty is breathtaking and the craftsmanship is unparalleled. A Kachina figural pendant hangs on an ornate chain with symbol-shaped links. The brilliantly-colored sterling silver pendant is set with Chinese turquoise, red coral and lapis lazuli inlay in fantastic geometric shapes. The pendant hangs from a large, decorative bale on a sterling silver chain that is a superb piece in its own right. Open work links in the form of traditional Navajo motifs such as arrows and lightening bolts are finished with a classic hook and eye clasp. Fine engraved details are found all over the necklace. The back of the pendant is signed "Tracey" over an engraved feather. This is Tracey's mark, and appears to be hand engraved rather than stamped. This necklace could be the crown jewel in your vintage jewelry collection. Circa 1980.
A Kachina is an ancestral spirit of the Pueblo Indians. There are more than 500 of these spirits, and they act as intermediaries between humans and the gods. We have not been able to determine which Kachina this pendant represents, it appears to be wearing a headdress that resembles antlers or perhaps wings.
Ray Tracey is a world renown Navajo artist. He has been designing jewelry since 1977, and continues to create wonderful jewels to this day. Fun Fact: He also spent some time in Hollywood as an actor, but his first love was Old Style Navajo jewelry and he soon returned home to New Mexico to pursue his art.
Details.....The chain is 24" long. The pendant measures 1.45" by 2.62", 3.25" with bale. In Very Good Vintage Condition. You should always expect some wear on antique and vintage jewelry, we consider it part of the charm.
