The "Mizpah" motif was popular during the sentimental Victorian period. "Mizpah" is a Hebrew word that means "watchtower", and is loosely interpreted to mean "May God watch over you". This antique English ring is a particularly romantic version of the style. The 18ct gold band bears the word "Mizpah", broken between the syllables by two hearts, all modeled in relief. The hearts are each embellished with a star-set diamond. The gently tapered band has an engraved edge and a flat shank. This ring bears the hallmarks for England, Birmingham, 18ct, and 1881-82.
