Unbelievable European Heart Lock Bracelet in 18k & Garnet

This early Victorian 18k gold heart lock is elaborately engraved and set with a teardrop-shaped, deep red cabochon garnet. The heart is covered in repousse roses and feathers on a picked background. Each hinge of the lock is engraved with a rose and the lock bar is engraved with waves and feathers. The back of the heart holds a crystal covered receiving locket meant to hold a tress of hair. The lock is suspended from an incredible chain: long, shiny, hand-cut links are paired with stippled, matte, knot-like links creating a fascinating contrast of shapes and textures. This unbelievable bracelet is hallmarked for Borgen, Norway, 18k and the year 1848. 

Details.....The heart lock measures 0.71" by 1.03" and 0.52" deep. The chain is 7.5" long and 5.2mm in thickness. In Very Good antique condition. Small imperfections are to be expected in vintage and antique pieces and are considered part of their charm.
