In the Victorian era, it was popular to save your hair and have it woven into a piece of jewelry as a sentimental gift for one of your loved ones. Some women wove it themselves, but there were also specialty jewelers who would weave the hair for you and mount it in elaborate designs. They would insert spring-like wires inside the puffy pieces to maintain the volume of the piece. This necklace consists of all brunet human hair with gold filled appointments. The piece dates to the mid 1800s. It is all original and in wearable condition.
